On your way there, stop for a swim at the numerous rocky spots at the north-east side of the island. Kalamos has a unique rural atmosphere and you will truly feel like going back in time. Wander around the stone-built houses and talk to the locals about the old times and life on the island.

Rugged, romantic and historic; this is Ithaki, the homeland to which Odysseus struggled to return for 10 heroic years, inspiring Homer to write the Odyssey epic! The island charms its visitors with its ancient ruins, breath-taking landscapes, picturesque villages and genuine hospitality.
The village of Kioni is very attractive, with colourful houses tucked into the forested mountain slopes ending in the deep blue waters of the bay. Walk the 3km path to the 3 derelict windmills at the southern end of the bay to enjoy the stunning views. Taste the local cuisine in one of the wonderful tavernas at the harbour.
Ithaki deserves a second day for exploration. Take the chance to sail to some of the numerous swimming spots around the island. Whether sandy or pebbled, rocky or forested, busy or peaceful, you will fall in love with their gorgeous waters. Vathy is the island’s capital and an incredibly picturesque town! Sami is a beautiful coastal town with an attractive waterfront, wide paved streets and charming Venetian-style building. Nature generously offered it beautiful lakes and underground caves and renting a car is the best way to explore the area. Then head towards the picturesque Asos village, built around the homonymous peninsula.
Fiskardo is a picturesque and cosmopolitan village with pastel-coloured Venetian-style houses surrounding a gorgeous natural harbour. It is a major sailing port and extremely popular for all sailors and yachties in the summer months. There is a great selection of fine-dining and traditional restaurants offering delicious dishes, and the smell of grilled seafood dominates the air. There are also plenty of bars where you can get a drink, have fun and relax.
The return trip from Fiskardo to Lefkas marina lasts about 4 hours. There are plenty of swimming spots along the way such as the stunning beaches of Porto Katsiki and Eggremnoi with their white-azure waters, the bay of Sivota, Scorpios island and Paleros beach. You should be back at the marina by 8 pm, which will give you plenty of time to relax at the marina or venture off to Lefkas town.
Our recommended way to visit the area is by land, while at Lefkas, before or after your sailing holiday. If you feel like sailing there, it takes between 1.5-2 hours to reach from Fiskardo.
